Make Money From Your Existing Web Host
One of the sources of money that we often overlook is the web host that’s hosting your site(s)/blog(s). Before you read further, you have a web hosting account, don’t you? If not, I recommend two excellent web hosts for you: DreamHost and HostGator.
Here are the steps to make money from your web host. These are nothing earth shattering or innovative, but sometimes it’s good to be reminded of basics.
- Visit your host’s homepage and look for a link to affiliate/referral program. Sign up for it and keep your referral link handy.
- Make a post in your blog about the features offered by your host and why you are pleased/happy with their services. Write in such a way that it will be beneficial to those who are semi-decided and looking for reviews. Target keywords like "<Your host name here> review".
Your post can also be about where to get the best coupon discounts for those who have decided to go with the host. For an example, check out my post on how to get the maximum discount on DreamHost web hosting. This post has fetched me $411 so far (I discovered that only a couple of days back when I was casually surfing my hosting’s admin panel)
- Promote your post at social networks and bookmarking services.
The good thing about web hosting referrals is that the income is pretty much passive, meaning it will continue to come without you having to do any thing other than writing about it. Also secondary referrals, i.e., those who have signed up for web hosting through the referral links of your referrals will bring in cascading revenue.
You can also of course promote any other hosting even though you don’t actually use it. I have kept a HostGator banner at two of my sites and got one referral worth $50 without me writing a single blog post or promoting it any fashion.
By the way, if you are still on the fence about getting a web host for hosting all your marketing sites and blogs, I highly recommend DreamHost. These guys provide unlimited everything (bandwidth, space, number of domains and subdomains you can host, databases etc.). So you can just concentrate on your sites and not worry about limitations normally imposed by other web hosts. I have 37 domains plus 3 subdomains hosted at DreamHost.
